“Bananas: The Backbone of Year-Round Sustainability”

Bananas (Matooke) play a crucial role in Coffee Trap Agencies’ integrated agro-system, complementing the company’s coffee and tea enterprises. As a staple food in Central and Western Uganda, bananas provide farmers with both food security and a consistent source of income throughout the year.

Unlike coffee and tea, which have distinct harvest seasons; bananas yield continuously, ensuring steady cash flow and employment even during off-seasons. This year-round production diversifies farm income and reduces financial risk, strengthening household resilience.

Their intercropping with coffee enhances soil fertility through organic mulch and livestock manure while offering shade and moisture retention, creating a sustainable cycle of productivity and ecological balance
